Regarding Loot The Body, and a Few Magic Items

So, I’ve started spreading my wings, as it were, and surveying the vastness of D&D podcasts, articles, and websites; and I learned something…

There’s about 400 BILLION blogs, columns, and podcasts that use some variation of “Behind the DM Screen” as their moniker. Seriously! There’s anofficial D&D Column, a podcast under the Tome Show, and that column on Tribality! Why did nobody tell me!? And I thought I was being clever…

Well, shit. Guess it’s time for a change.

So, because of that, welcome to Loot the Body! New Name, Same Great Taste! Now with fluoride!
It’s a name I’ve been kicking around for a little while as I’ve thought about other gaming projects. Since I simply ADORE stealing ideas from other, more talented writers, it seemed fitting.

…and, well, I guess that’s really all there is to say about that. There should be some actual content coming down the pipe, soon enough, even if it’s just little stuff. So look forward to that. Until then, however, I’ll leave you with a few refurbished magic items from the 5e Dungeon Master’s Guide. Why are they refurbished? Because I’m getting rid of numerical bonuses, of course! Or did you just think I meant getting rid of the bonuses on weapons and armor…pfft. For shame.

Arrow-Catching Shield: Rare Shield (requires attunement). Whenever a ranged attack from a bow or crossbow (or other weapons and spells, at your DM’s discretion) misses you, the arrow from that attack sticks in this shield, is undamaged, and can easily be plucked from its face (leaving it unscarred) without consuming an action. In addition, whenever an attacker makes a ranged attack against a creature within 5 feet of you, you can use your reaction to become the target of the attack instead.

Bracers of Archery: Rare Wondrous Item. You gain proficiency with shortbows and longbows as long as you wear these bracers.
  • True Aim (requires attunement). Once per round, when you hit an enemy with an attack from a shortbow or longbow, you may roll 2 damage dice instead of 1 when determining the damage dealt (you only add additional modifiers once, as you normally would).
  • Long Shot (requires attunement with this item and Eyes of the Eagle). Your attacks with shortbows and longbows no longer suffer disadvantage due to range.

Bracers of Defense: Rare Wondrous Item (requires attunement). This item has 1 charge. So long as this item maintains this charge, once per round, when you are hit with an attack, you may use your reaction to add 1d4 to your AC against that attack. In addition, when you are hit with an attack, and after damage for the attack is rolled, you may expend this item’s 1 charge to negate all damage from that attack. This item has a 50% chance of regaining 1 charge at dawn. You cannot gain the benefits of this item if you wear any kind of armor or wield a shield.

Cloak/Ring of Protection: Rare Ring (requires attunement). Once per round, when you are hit with an attack or fail a saving throw, you may use your reaction to add 1d4 to either your AC against that attack or the Saving Throw.

Defender: Legendary Weapon (any sword) (requires attunement). At the start of your turn, if you are wielding this weapon, roll 1d6. This weapon gains a number of charges equal to the result, which you then assign to either “attack” or “defense.”
  •          Attack. For each charge assigned to “attack,” you gain a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls with this weapon, to a maximum of +3.
  •          Defense. For each charge assigned to “defense,” you gain a +1 bonus to your Armor Class and Saving Throws, to a maximum of +3. You can only gain this bonus if you are wielding this weapon.

This weapon loses all of its charges at the start of your next turn, or if it is dropped or sheathed.
